Munster Plan For Temporary Stand

Munster Plan For Temporary Stand

Munster Rugby intend to apply for planning permission this week to erect a 4,000 seater temporary stand at Musgrave Park for the 2011/12 season.

The planned temporary stand for Musgrave Park will replace the existing stand and terrace on the west side of the ground.

It will accommodate approximately 2,600 covered seats and 1,400 uncovered seats with a resultant increase in current total ground capacity of 1,500, from 8,500 to 10,000.

The project is self-financing and is an interim option while funding is obtained for the state-of-the-art 6,500 capacity stand for which planning permission has already been granted.

Munster Rugby CEO Garrett Fitzgerald explained: “It’s vital we retain the existing Magners League matches in Cork given that a significant proportion of our support base is located in south and east Munster.

“We are committed to the development of the 6,500 capacity stand but given the current financial climate, the temporary stand for the 2011/12 season is the best alternative.”

The temporary stand is similar to one currently in use by Harlequins at the Stoop.

Munster Rugby are hopeful that planning permission will be granted in time for next season given that the structure is smaller in depth, height, and capacity than the stand for which planning has already been granted.

In the event that planning permission is not granted for the temporary stand, matches would be played at Thomond Park.

The fundraising continues for the main stand at Musgrave Park with the province’s Development Committee examining several different options.

One of the fundraising options are Seven Year Season Tickets, covering all matches in both Thomond Park and Musgrave Park and these are currently on sale at prices ranging from €;2,600 to €;4,500.
