IRFU President To Attend Coolmine Event
IRFU President Caleb Powell will be a guest speaker at the Coolmine RFC’s annual Business Lunch at Dunboyne Castle on Friday. The west Dublin club is celebrating its 30th anniversary this month.
It is exactly 30 years this month since Coolmine RFC first ‘took to the field.’ The Ashbrook-based club has progressed considerably, both on and off the field, since then and has achieved great heights.
At their 2010 Business Lunch at Dunboyne Castle on Friday, Coolmine club members, players, coaches and supporters will celebrate the 30th anniversary in style.
Why not come and celebrate Coolmine’s rich history at this special event, which will raise much-needed funds to help the club continue to prosper.
IRFU President Caleb Powell and rugby pundit George Hook will be the guest speakers, with renowned rugby referee John West performing the MC duties.
There will be a drinks reception at 1pm followed by a five-course medal with wine. Afterwards, you can retire to the bar to reminisce, listen to the stories – old and new – and relive the club’s momentous matches which, no doubt, will have improved with time!
A table of ten costs €;1,500, with individuals admitted for €;150.

Coolminre were first affiliated to the Leinster Branch of the IRFU in 1980. They entered the junior leagues in 1981, playing their home games on a pitch which was leased on an annual basis from the County Council.
The Mini rugby and Youths section was founded during the 1981/82 season and has prospered ever since in this spiralling suburb of Dublin.
In 1985, after a number of successful years on the pitch, Coolmine purchased its current home, a site consisting of eight acres at Ashbrook in Castleknock, Dublin 15.
A series of developments took place over the following years and the site now consists of two floodlit pitches, an all-weather training area, car park and a modern two storey clubhouse which was officially opened in 1993 by the then President of Ireland, Mary Robinson.
On the playing front, Coolmine has continued to prosper and the first team currently competes in Leinster Junior League Division 1A, seeking to gain senior status and a place in the All-Ireland League.
The club’s Under-21s play in the JP Fanagan League and the youths from the ages of 7 to 17 have their own Metropolitan League and Cup competitions. A selection of cups and pennants from the various sections adorn the upstairs bar area.
While concentrating mainly on the playing front, Coolmine has not neglected the social aspect and as well as the mandatory trips to England, Scotland and Wales, the club’s squads has undertaken tours to Italy, France and the Cayman Islands and Hong Kong.
Coolmine sides at all levels regularly organise tours throughout the year. Also, a link has been established between Coolmine and the Mata Wahorou club in New Zealand, with both clubs exchanging developing players on a seasonal basis.
In 2006, Coolmine completed an ambitious clubhouse renovation project which added two new changing rooms, shower areas and toilets, as well as an entrance atrium, committee room and viewing balcony over the main pitch. Their clubhouse is also wheelchair accessible with a lift to the first floor.
