Plenty Of Fun At Ravenhill Schools Festival

Plenty Of Fun At Ravenhill Schools Festival

Ravenhill played host to this year’s Ulster Primary Schools Mini Rugby Festival last week, with 32 primary schools from across the province taking part.

The Ulster Primary Schools Mini Rugby Festival, proudly sponsored by Northgate Managed Services, saw a change in format to the previous years’ finals in line with the IRFU’s new regulations surrounding Mini rugby.

The main emphasis of the week was on fun and fair play rather than competition.

The festival took place from Tuesday to Friday with schools taking part in round robin matches each day. Scores were not kept, therefore there were no overall winners each day.

Commenting on the success of the festival, Brian O’Shaughnessy, Senior Community Rugby Officer for the Ulster Branch of the IRFU, said: “The format of this year’s festival worked really well and there was a great sense of sportsmanship throughout the week.

“The emphasis was on fun and taking part and we hope that by giving every team the chance to participate, that more young people will continue to play the game.

“I would like to thank sponsors, Northgate, the referees who officiated during the week and also the teachers and pupils at all of the schools. My thanks also to the Ulster Branch staff who helped to organise the festival.”
