Double Success For Coolmine

Double Success For Coolmine

There has been plenty of success for Leinster clubs in recent weeks. Old Belvedere have secured promotion to Division 1A of the AIB League for next season, while Lansdowne – with a stunning twelve wins from twelve matches – will be moving up a division, from Division 2 to 1B.

In the junior ranks, there were also celebrations recently down River Road way as Coolmine RFC claimed their second successive Leinster League title with a 23-0 home win over Tullow.

It was a must-win game for the Dublin 15 side, with second-placed Newbridge hot on their heels just a point behind them in the Division 1B table.

Twelve months ago Coolmine finished top of the pile in Division 2 and gained promotion, with Leinster and Ireland hooker Bernard Jackman the man in charge.

Coolmine have a new coach this season in Ulster and Ireland legend Willie Anderson and he was delighted to see his troops get the better of Tullow and clinch another trophy, along with their promotion to Division 1A.

In front of a large crowd, IRFU President John Callaghan was on hand to present the Leinster Division 1B trophy to victorious Coolmine captain Ollie Prunty.

Just the previous week, the Coolmine seconds followed in the footsteps of the firsts when they retained the Byrne Cup, with a 30-10 win over first division outfit Seapoint. Congratulations to all involved in the club’s successful run.
