Girls Rugby Takes Off In Nenagh

Girls rugby is up and running at Nenagh Ormond RFC. Training is every Friday night from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Girls rugby is played at Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 age grades. Girls aged Under-8, Under-10 and Under-11 can play mixed rugby with training every Thursday at 6.15pm in Tyone.

There has been an excellent response since training has started up at Nenagh Ormond with the girls displaying a keen interest in rugby.

Everyone who has come along has really got stuck in, muck and all! These are fun sessions aimed at giving girls an introduction to the game of rugby, teaching skills and building teamwork.

There are also developments with the Nenagh senior ladies who are having another fine season. They recently hosted visitors from Villelongue ladies club from the south of France.

Villelongue are a relatively new all ladies club. They have senior ladies and cadets at underage.

The Munster ladies side travelled to Perpignan last August for a pre-season tour and were hosted by the Villelongue club for the two-match trip. The ties continued and led to the visit last week to Nenagh of the Villelongue committee.

Since the Nenagh and Villelongue twinning, the Villelongue ladies are now planning to travel to Ireland next September to play the Nenagh ladies and the Tipperary club are hoping to make it an annual event, with Nenagh to travel to the south of France next year.

Girls and ladies of all ages are encouraged to come along and give rugby a try. It is a great way to keep active, particularly over the winter months and make great friends for life. See the Nenagh Ormond website for all training times.
