The Cookies are the new leaders and they had to do it the hard way, with out-half Alan Kingsley drilling out a last-gasp penalty to stretch their winning run to five league games.

Seven minutes from the end of this absorbing encounter, the top flight’s leading try scorer David Mongan crashed over for his 11th try of the campaign, nudging Old Belvedere into a 15-13 lead.

But Young Munster battled back in a determined fashion, and were awarded a penalty in the last minute and the nerveless Kingsley did the rest.

Kingsley was a key contributor to the visitors’ success, landing two penalties in the opening quarter as Mike Prendergast’s side settled impressively.

‘Belvo, though, enjoyed some productive first half moments themselves as flanker Jason Risdon notched a 29th minute try which was converted by Leinster star Fergus McFadden.

Matthew Costelloe responded with a try for Munsters, three minutes later, with Kingsley adding the extras as the Limerick men turned around with a 13-10 interval advantage.

The second period was tight and tense, and though ‘Belvo hit the front courtesy of Mongan, Kingsley denied them with that pressure kick in the dying stages.
