Jaike Ready For Big Role With Barbarians

Jaike Ready For Big Role With Barbarians

Jaike Callaghan from Castlecaulfield in County Tyrone has been chosen as team mascot for the Barbarians when the world famous invitational side meet New Zealand at Twickenham next Saturday (kick-off 2.30pm).

Jaike Callaghan, who is in P1 at Windmill Integrated Primary School, is no stranger to sport as his dad Darryl played rugby for Ulster and a number of local clubs, including Dungannon, and currently works as a Rugby Development Officer with the Ulster Branch of the IRFU.

His mum, Laura, also plays hockey for Belfast Harlequins and is an Irish international hockey umpire.

While, at five years of age, Jaike is still a little young to play rugby, he is already a big fan of the game and often comes to Ravenhill with his dad to watch Ulster play.

He is also a keen swimmer and recently completed his Amateur Swimming Asssociation Level 2.

Jaike was invited to be the Barbarians’ team mascot for the New Zealand game by their team doctor, Donal O’Shaughnessy, who is a family friend.

Jaike and his family were delighted by the honour and are looking forward to making the trip to London next Saturday for the star-studded clash.
