Munster prospect Scott Deasy thrilled the large crowd at Temple Hill, seven minutes into the second half, when he picked up possession on the 10-metre line, broke through Garryowen’s defensive line and romped in under the posts for a crucial seven-pointer.
Garryowen, 20-19 winners over Constitution last season, had opened the scoring when a blocked down kick finished with winger Ronan O’Mahony dotting down and his fellow Ireland Under-20 international Conor Murray added the extras.
A 40-metre penalty from Deasy got Cork Con off the mark, Murray replied with a kick from 25 metres but the home side had the final say of the first half.
On 29 minutes, influential winger Richie Lane slalomed through for a try which Deasy converted, leaving it 10-10 for the break.
Deasy’s superb score edged the Leesiders ahead on the restart and while out-half Gerry Hurley kicked a morale-boosting penalty for the Limerick men, Constitution had the better of the final quarter as they stood firm for a much-needed win.
