Old Belvedere moved a point clear at the top of AIB League Division 1B, with winger David Mongan scoring two tries, adding to the hat-trick he enjoyed last week at home to UCC.

Two early tries from Mongan and Kiwi import Jason Risdon set ‘Belvo on their way.

Leinster centre Fergus McFadden converted one and landed a penalty with the last kick of the half-time, leaving Phil Werahiko’s side with a 15-0 advantage to take into the second period.

‘Belvo, who started with a very strong line-up, had the luxury of bringing Leinster scrum half Chris Keane on for the second half.

They moved 22-0 clear when Mongan picked up a loose ball and ran the length of the pitch for a fantastic individual try.

Billy Henshaw struck back for Buccs with a try, but further touchdowns from McFadden and full-back Kieran Hurrell put ‘Belvo out of sight.

The Pirates kept plugging away though and deservedly got over the try-line again when Connacht winger Brian Tuohy finished off a neat move, with scrum half Adam Kennedy adding the extras.
