Draw Made For 2009/10 AIB Cup

The draw for the 2009/10 AIB Cup took place earlier today (Saturday) in the clubhouse of last season’s cup champions Ballynahinch RFC.

The first round of the draw includes the 32 clubs from Divisions 2 and 3 of the AIB League.

The winners of these ties will then go forward to the second round to play the 16 clubs from Divisions 1A and 1B of the AIB League.

The first round of the competition will be played on the weekend of September 26 and 27, and the second round will be played on the weekend of October 17 and 18.

Round three of the AIB Cup has been schedule for November 7-8, the quarter-finals will take place on November 21-22 with the semi-finals set for December 19-20.

Today’s draw was made by IRFU President John Callaghan and Uel Graham from First Trust Bank.

Cup holders Ballynahinch have been drawn at home to Cork Constitution in a repeat of last season’s final, while AIB League Division One champions Shannon will face Buccaneers.

In the first round, Donnybrook neighbours Bective Rangers and Old Wesley will face off with a a home tie against Ballymena the prize in the second round.

The winners from round two will be entered into further open draws for round three, the quarter-finals and semi-finals.

The final will be played on January 30, 2010. The draw for the AIB Junior Cup will be made at a later date.
