Tag Rugby A Big Draw In Donegal

Tag Rugby A Big Draw In Donegal

The Donegal Community Rugby Project organised a Tag rugby competition in Letterkenny last Saturday, which proved to be a great success.

Participants came from all over Donegal, following a series of regional ‘come and try’ sessions held during the summer.

The games were refereed by Shane Toolan who had a challenging task in explaining to some of the male players that it was non contact!

The games were played in great spirit with many of the new male and female players keen to continue with more Tag sessions and matches for the remainder of the summer.

It is hoped that this year will be the start of an annual summer Tag rugby programme in Donegal and that participation levels will increase next year.

There may even be a possibility of hosting Beach Tag rugby which will attract people from all over Ulster and Ireland.

The Donegal Community Rugby Project would like to thank the following people and clubs who managed and organised the Tag sessions during the summer – Donal Byrne and Petso Cannon of Donegal Town RFC, Gary Mc Elenny and Mark McLaughlin of Inishowen RFC, John McCann of Tir Chonaill RFC, and Ciaran O’Dowd and Clodagh McCool of Letterkenny RFC.

Donegal Town RFC will be holding their annual Tag competition on Saturday, August 29. For further details, please contact info@donegalcommunityrugby.com.
