Bud Light Tag All-Ireland At Garryowen

Bud Light Tag All-Ireland At Garryowen

Teams arrived in Limerick on a warm sunny day to take part in the 2009 Bud Light Tag Open Championships at Garryowen FC and showed perfectly the meaning of ‘A Game of Two Halves’.

With the music pumping, the sun shining, the BBQ sizzling and Garryowen FC alive with tag matches all day, the All-Ireland Open Tag Championships 2009 turned out to be the huge day out for all as predicted.

Starting at lunchtime in balmy temperatures, all grades kicked off their group games with the multi-venue cameraderie delivering a perfect chance for teams to pit their wits against similar from tag venues all over.

Each league went right down to the wire and when the full-time hooters sounded in the afternoon, lots of celebrating took place as the victors all high-fived their way up to the clubhouse for some well-earned refreshments.

All the finals were very close affairs indeed with the B Grade, for example, being won by Limerick Exiles by turning a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 win at the death of it all

With teams coming from Galway, Dublin, Waterford, Cork, Carlow to name a few areas and referees from each branch of the IRFU, this event was a fantastic example of all that is great about Bud Light Tag.

As the sun set (and clouds finally made their way over Dooradoyle), it was time for the Trophy Presentations when Olly Hodges (IRFU Leisure Rugby Manager) presented the winning teams with their silverware and medals.

Following the celebrations and photo-shoots, the All-Ireland party continued on into Limerick as the Tag teams converged on Mollys Bar for a well earned pint with winners medals catching the eye of the other punters present.

We would like to congratulate all who won, comiserate all who came in as runners-up and thank EVERYONE who took part in playing, spectating, volunteering and of course, refereeing.

Special thanks to all at Garryowen FC for the great venue and Mollys for the perfect after-games venue.
