Final Flourish At Belvo

Final Flourish At Belvo

It was Wednesday night finals in Belvo this week and despite the early morning rain the sun shone bright for an evening of fun and some great Tag matches.

The outlook in the morning didn’t look great but the sun broke through and the Wednesday night Bud Light Taggers got the weather they deserved for a fabulous finals night.

First up for decision were the two Men’s Vets leagues. Both leagues had been very competitive all season and the final of the Vets 2 League was no different.

The Icarus All Sorts pipped the Greystones Seagulls by a point in a really skillful game that was played in great spirit by two super teams.

The Bowl final went to Belvo’s own Hurricanes who with Tony O’Beirne in the van put the Greystones Hawks to the sword with a comprehensive 21 – 3 victory.

Finally the Salmo Sluggers ran out comprehensive winners over Lansdowne Lightning in the last playoff spot.

Next up was Vets 1 League, a really tough group with some top class tag players. Paul Clinch’s Lansdowne Legends ran out 7 – 3 winners over Paul Clinch’s Stalevo Stallions to pick up the Cup and the Memorial Trophy.

The Vets 1 Bowl went to the Wanderly Wagons who beat the Flying Crocks by 13 – 7. Meanwhile Terenure beat an unusually non vintage Vintage Rock 79 in the cup third and fourth place playoff and The Wombles beat the Mangy Rangers 7 – 3 in the Bowl playoff.

The two mixed social leagues were combined for the playoffs and it made for some interesting match ups in the finals.

Defending champions Slattery’s lost their crown to The Tagables in a highly entertaining final which ended 17 – 12. The 3rd and 4th place playoff was contested between Swoop Unit and Butter’s All Star 7. Both teams had been just pipped in the semi finals and so a great game was expected. It lived up to the billing with the Butters taking the game by 10 – 6.

In the Bowl last season’s beaten Cup finalists Hoof Hearted just could not recapture the old form and lost out by 18 – 10 to Tag Mo Thoin. The KSN Redbacks were worthy winners against The Swifties, who in their first season have been great fun and lived up to the spirit of the game.

Special mention also goes to Maples Lions and Vets team Danger Rangers who played a combined game to round of the season. It ended 18 – 18 between the specially created teams Danger Lions and Maple Rangers.

Marty Morrissey of RTE Sport collects the Mixed Social Plate

Finally there was the Plate. In the third and fourth place playoff Diageo rivals The Fear and The Titans played out a ‘Golden Point’ extra time decider that ended with The Titans victorious. Cue plenty of inter office emails the next day!

The Plate final was another super game between two teams new to Bud Light Tag.

Victory went to the Marty Morrissey (pictured receicving the Mixed Social Plate) inspired RTE Sport by 8 – 4 over G’O2.

There was an even a post match interview with Marty who said: “Tá an athas orm on corn seo…..”

Congratulations to all the winners and to all the teams who made Wednesday NIght Bud Light Tag so much fun in Belvo this season.

A big thanks to the club for providing such a central location and to Venue Managers Grainne and Barry who made thinsg run so smoothly.
