Connacht Support ‘Movember’ Charity Cause

Connacht Support ‘Movember’ Charity Cause

‘Movember’ – the month formerly known as November – is an annual moustache-growing charity event held during November.

‘Movember’ raises funds for men’s health specifically prostate cancer. For the second year running, the Connacht squad are participating in the event and all monies raised will go directly to local charity Cancer Care West.

Movember started at the beginning of the month where the Connacht players were clean shaven. They then have to grow and maintain their facial hair until the end of the month raising money along the way.

On the last day of the month, there will be a judging as to who has won ‘Man of Movember’ and John Maguire from Fat Tony’s has sponsored the hot towel shave for the winner.

Interestingly, Connacht play Ulster at Ravenhill on Friday, November 28 and this match will be shown live on Setanta.

All Connacht players will have full facial hair playing as will many of the English, Scottish and Welsh teams playing during the month of November.

Anyone wishing to donate money for this very important and necessary charity event can do so by going to the Cancer Care website and donating directly.

Or you can send donations directly to Cancer Care West (Ref: Movember), UCHG, Galway or to Connacht Rugby (Ref: Movember), The Sportsground, College Road, Galway.

David O’Donnell, Fundraising Manager for Cancer Care West, said: “This is a great way to create awareness for men’s health and the benefit of getting regular check-ups.

“Cancer Care is delighted to be associated for the second year with Connacht Rugby for the month of ‘Movember’ and look forward to the judging at the end of the month.”
