Navan In The Pink Again

Navan In The Pink Again

Following on from the success of last year, the coaches and players of Navan RFC organised another Pink Day to raise support for Breast Cancer Services and Research.

Last year, thanks to generous support from sponsors, Navan RFC members and the public, the club raised €;7,500 for this excellent cause.

This season’s Pink Day was held recently and the target was to raise €;10,000 for this charity.

In efforts to develop matchdays as family events, Wicklow RFC were invited to bring along all of their underage teams to play their Navan counterparts in a minis blitz earlier in the afternoon.

With the Navan first team taking the lead, wearing an all-pink strip, everyone else were more than willing to get into the spirit of things with pink scarves, jackets, shirts, dresses, jumpers, etc, being the order of the day.

Fundraising started with the proceeds from admission to the senior games being donated to this worthy charity.

Members of the Ladies team, wives and girlfriends of players, players’ mums, etc. served up pink tea and champagne in the bar as well as selling official Irish Cancer Society pink ribbons and key rings.

Later on in the evening, the pink jerseys worn by the senior team were auctioned off to highest bidders in the crowd as well as some autographed Leinster jerseys and scrum caps.

There was an excellent atmosphere in the rugby club throughout the afternoon and the whole event had a family feel to it.

Full credit to the parents of the underage teams, from both Wicklow and Navan, who stayed on to support the event after their games had finished.

At the end of the evening there was extra delight when it was announced that due to the generosity of sponsors and to everyone who took part, the day’s activities had raised over €;10,000 for this charity.

The driving force behind this event was Navan head coach Brad Harris and on the day, while he was busy on the pitch, his wife Tara put in a ‘man-of-the-match’ performance coordinating all the fundraising activities.
