Taggers at Corinthians Spoilt with Sunshine

Corinthians reached the half way mark in their Budweiser Tag Tournament last Thursday, and to celebrate this milestone, the guest of honour was non other that the sun and a blue sky, which was “warmly” welcomed by all participants.

Unfortunately the weather in the west has not been too pleasant over the last few Tag evenings, and it is clear to see that the sunshine really does bring a smile to everyone’s face.

The action on the field reflected the conditions, and so it was fast paced, running rugby in every division.  With only 2 games left in the round robin series, all teams are trying to move up the pecking order of their respective leagues in order to draw an easier quarter final match against a lower ranked team.

At this stage in the competition, only 5 of the 72 teams have won all of their games.  The Wild Oysters lead the charge in the Beginners league with the full complement of points, however they are closely followed by MC Hammers who are also unbeaten but have drawn a game leaving them one point behind.  The Vulcanoes and JCI are both yet to celebrate their first win.

The C league is far more competitive however with 3 teams with the top points.  This league boasts 32 teams divided into 4 groups.  Big Tom & The Mainliners, Team HRC and The Untaggables all lead their respective groups, but with many teams only starting to fire on all cylinders, it is still far too early to pick an eventual winner.

Both the A and B Leagues witnessed dramatic draws in their pool games last Thursday.  In the B League, G- Whizz took on Olly’s Pecking Crowes, both of whom had a clean sheet of 4 wins apiece leading into the game.  After a massive effort from both sides the match ended at 12-12, a just result meaning that they share the points.  This draw has left The Kingfisher Clan sneak one point clear of the leader board in the B League.  The Dirtier Dozen remain top of the table in the A league, although they nearly stumbled to their first defeat of the tournament when they met a determined Mangled Badgers side.  Mid way through the match the Badgers scored 3 unanswered female tries in a matter of minutes which left the Dirtier Dozen to chase the game.  Only managing to score 2 female tries in the game the Dozen had to resort to getting the lads over the try line as much as possible and in the end managed to pull out a 16-16 draw.

The much anticipated Charity Fancy Dress Night is at the club next Thursday which is always a highlight of the Summer
