Clifden Goes Wild For Budweiser Beach Tag
On Saturday, the beautiful setting of Omey Island Beach was alive with the buzz of teams taking part in the Clifden Budweiser Beach Tag Festival.
The changeable weather did not dampen, even in the slightest, the enthusiasm of all involved and three leagues of mixed social teams took advantage of thankfully drying sand to play some very entertaining and fun-packed Tag rugby.
As the day progressed, each of the three leagues began to take shape leading up to 4pm when the three finals took place.
These finals yielded three outstanding winners. Group One was won by the ‘Griffin’s Bar’ team, Group Two by ‘The Fear’ and last but not least, Group Three was won by the evervescent ‘Rooskey Gang’.
Congratulations to all who won, comiserations to the runners-up and a VERY big thank you to all who took part.
Afterwards, the weather finally had its say, preventing an outdoor street party in Clifden Square from taking place but did that stop Connemara RFC from delivering a great party for everyone?
Not in the slightest! Plan B went into effect and a massive crowd headed to the bar at Foyle’s Hotel where there was a presentation of the trophies to the winning teams, followed by a great night of singing and dancing thanks to the two acts who took the stage.
Special mentions are due for Connemara RFC’s Kevin Kehoe and Hugh Coyle plus those who helped them, the referees and everyone else whose efforts provided a super day for all ‘on the beach’.
A great, memorable night it most certainly was and judging from the feedback received so far, another in 2009 is eagerly anticpated
