In the early hours of Thursday morning last week, Allen Clarke’s Ireland ‘A’ side began their 2008 Churchill Cup campaign with a 46-9 victory over the USA.
But their bid for a place in the final faltered in Toronto last Saturday as they suffered a 34-12 defeat to England Saxons.
Nonetheless, the Irish can still end the tournament on a high by beating Argentina ‘A’ on finals day at Toyota Park in Chicago. Victory would see them lift the Churchill Cup Plate title for the third successive year.
