Magners League: Round 5 Preview

Magners League: Round 5 Preview

Old rivals Ulster and Leinster will go head-to-head at Ravenhill on Friday night in the most intriguing of this weekend’s Magners League matches. Read on for full fixtures details.

With the Welsh Regions having already completed this round of fixtures, there are only three Magners League games – including one of the oldest of local derbies – this weekend.

All three games are on Friday night with Edinburgh and Connacht meeting at the Sportsground in Galway, with both sides trying to get away from the foot of the table.

The hosts will be looking for their first win over Scottish opposition since last March, while Andy Robinson is still looking for his first win as Edinburgh coach.

The second game is also an Irish-Scottish encounter as Munster visit the Glasgow Warriors, with the Warriors looking to build on their fine home record. On the other hand, Munster will be aiming to avoid a third consecutive league defeat. The game is getting the television treatment – it will be live in Ireland on Setanta Sports 2.

The final game of the round brings together familiar foes Ulster and Leinster at Ravenhill with the Ulstermen keen to recover from their poor start to the season at the expense of their southern neighbours.

However, the omens are not good for the home team with only one Ulster win over Leinster (in 2004) since the league began in 2001. Friday’s Belfast encounter will be live on Setanta Sports Ireland.
