Michael Bradley’s Ireland ‘A’ squad are busy preparing for their opening match of the 2007 Barclays Churchill Cup against Canada. Saturday’s game at Sandy Park in Exeter has an 8pm kick-off and will be live on Sky Sports Extra. IrishRugby.ie will also be running a live match tracker.

This weekend will be a big one in the life of John Fogarty as he becomes the first Connacht player to captain an Irish side since Ciaran Fitzgerald led them to Triple Crown success in 1985.

Hooker Fogarty said: “It is a great honour to captain Ireland ‘A’ and I’m really looking forward to Saturday. The Churchill Cup will be a significant test for us and we know we will face a tough task, first against the Canadians and then when we come up against the New Zealand Maori.”

Ireland face the Maori, the defending champions, at Sandy Park in Exeter on Tuesday, May 29 (kick-off 8pm). The Maori beat Ireland ‘A’ 27-6 at last year’s Churchill Cup.

The 2007 Churchill Cup finals will take place at Twickenham on Saturday, June 2.
