Brian O’Driscoll: Pre-Match Quotes

On the eve of Ireland’s Six Nations showdown with Scotland, captain Brian O’Driscoll discussed the game with the media at a press conference at Murrayfield.

ON RETAINING THE TRIPLE CROWN:

“The Grand Slam passed us by after the second game so we set the championship and the Triple Crown as our goals.

“People say the thing has been devalued and that’s because we’ve won it a couple of times recently and now people want us to strive for something better. But it’s the third best thing we can now achieve and we certainly don’t want to dip our standards below what we have set.”

ON COMING OFF THE BACK OF THE WIN OVER ENGLAND:

“It was a massive spectacle, it wasn’t just the sports pages but every page that covered it so there mightn’t be the same public interest for this one but it doesn’t lessen the value of a win for us.

“There’s a Triple Crown on the line and we’ve been professionals long enough to realise you give each team the same respect. Getting people up for a game is up to each individual and not my responsibility.

“Sure, if you see someone during the week being a little lackadaisical or preparing differently, he might need a quiet word. But we’ve been around long enough to treat each international like it might be your last.”
