Paul O’Connell was recently voted the Irish Rugby Supporters Club Player of the Season. One lucky Club member got to present him with his award on Wednesday.
The voting was pretty tight for the inaugural Supporters Club Player of The Season Award, but in the end there could only be one winner. His towering performances in RBS 6 Nations tournament made Munster and Ireland lock Paul O’Connell the obvious choice for the members.
The nominees were Paul, Shane Horgan, Brian O’Driscoll, Andrew Trimble and Jerry Flannery.
Shane’s consistentcy all season from November right through the RBS 6 Nations and his Triple Crown winning try was not quite enough to beat the mighty Munster man, while Munster hooker Jerry Flannery’s superb all round performances saw him edge out Andrew Trimble for the third spot.
Club member Rachel Ryan won the competition to present Paul with his award on behalf of the Supporters Club. Rachel and a few of her friends were able to attend the training camp in Limerick and see the team in action before they depart for the summer tour to New Zealand and Australia.
