A Leinster Rugby XI will take on a Malahide team in a Cricket Challenge to raise money for the Welcome Home Charity this Friday.

Leinster Rugby are delighted to announce that the Bank of Scotland (Ireland) Swords branch will sponsor Friday’s Challenge Cricket match in Malahide Cricket Club.

The “Bank of Scotland (Ireland) Swords Cricket Challenge” will be competed between a Malahide CC President’s XI who will go up against a Leinster Rugby XI in aid of the ‘Welcome Home’ Charity.

Speaking on Monday, Fiachra Dalton, Swords Branch Manager, Bank of Scotland (Ireland), said: “The ‘Welcome Home’ charity provides great hope, support and assistance to young homeless people throughout Dublin, and Bank of Scotland Ireland are delighted to be lending support to a charity event such as this which helps communities throughout Dublin everyday.

“Our branch in Swords has been extremely busy since the opening in January and sponsorship of this event is extremely important for us, as it acts as a way of saying thank you to a community who have made us so welcome.”

Bank of Scotland (Ireland) are also delighted to sponsor the “Man of the Match” award for the best player on the night.

Leinster look set to call on an impressive array of talent against the 2002 All-Ireland champions which could include the likes of Ireland scrum half Guy Easterby, Rob Kearney, Brian O’Riordan and England international prop Will Green. The Leinster side will be captained by Leinster assistant coach Gerry Murphy.

There will be music, a BBQ and player appearances. Entrance will be free but a collection and post-match raffle will be made on the day to the ‘Welcome Home’ Charity supporting Fr. Peter McVerry who works with young homeless people in Dublin. Play is scheduled to start at 6.00pm.

Welcome Home, a registered charity, has been raising funds for Fr. Peter McVerry for over 15 years to support him in his work with young homeless people in Dublin. Welcome Home raises money from a number of events throughout the year, the main one being the Wexford Cycle in September.

The Welcome Home Christmas Appeal, supported by Leinster Rugby and sponsored by Bank of Scotland (Ireland), is an increasingly important aspect of the fundraising. Welcome Home also receives many online donations through its website, www.welcomehome.ie The website provides details about the charity and the work of Fr. Peter McVerry.
