The fit-again Paul O’Connell tries to maintain possession for Ireland. Speaking on BBC 1 afterwards, the Munster lock said: “It was disappointing not to score a try but you’ve got to take these wins as they come. Scotland have beaten France and England – they are no pushovers – so we’ll take the win.
“We knew it was going to be a very tough game. We were a bit disappointed with the score line but we were delighted with the win.”
Ireland full-back Geordan Murphy shows his balletic skills as he goes high for a ball during Ireland’s third win of the 2006 championship. Reliving his weekend in his column for BBC Sport Online, the Kildare man admitted: “We have now won the game we wanted to, and played that little bit better in every game up to now.
“I suppose you could say we are building up a little head of steam for the finale. I certainly believe there is a lot more to come from this side. It’s going to be tough – Twickenham will not be a picnic and it’s a very tough place to go and get a win.
“England will have something to prove and they will certainly not want to lose at home.We might have a big say in that. It is going to be a massive occasion.”
