– ON THE PRESSURE AUSTRALIA ARE UNDER –

“I don’t think we could have any more pressure on us at the moment. If you could find some then good luck.

“On these sort of occasions teams can implode and factions appear but they (the squad) have stuck together.”

– ON SATURDAY’S SCRUM BATTLE –

“We were extremely disappointed with the way the scrum went against England and the only way you get better is to work hard on the technical issues. That’s what we have been trying to do, and the boys have ripped into it.

“Front rowers never like to be on the losing side – they play off two different score boards.

“They play the one that everyone else watches and they play scrum score board. As a front row you don’t like to lose that scrum score board, just as the rest don’t like to lose the major score board.

“In Test rugby at the moment the two are enormously linked. We’ve had a couple of defeats in that area so we are working hard to have a win in that area now.”

– ON IRELAND’S SCRUM –

“The Irish have a very experienced front row. It will be a good challenge for our boys.

“(John) Hayes has been around for a while now, (Shane) Byrne has a good number of caps and that are both Lions players. (Marcus) Horan’s a handy sort of player.

“There’s the possibility that we will go in with an inexperienced front row against them (Jones hinted that rookie props David Fitter and Greg Holmes may start), so enthusiasm and courage is going to be a big thing (for us).

– ON IRELAND’S TACTICS FOR SATURDAY –

“I think they (Ireland) will go back to a more traditional gameplan (than the running one they adopted against New Zealand). They will try and keep the ball off the ground and maul against us.

“I believe they will show more resolve against us than they did against the All Blacks.”
