Highfield tested leaders Bective’s 100% record to the limit on Saturday, but the three-try Dubliners hung on for a 24-20 win at Donnybrook.

Bective take in the break for the internationals with a single point lead at the top of the Division Two table.

Tries from lock Fiachra Lennon, winger James Hardy and tighthead prop Brendan Crowley helped hand a plucky Highfield side their third defeat of the season. A fourth bonus point for the Cork side, whose tries came from centre John Gleeson and winger Paul Matson, sees them sit in ninth place.

Terenure College pulled off the win of the weekend, beating old foes Greystones 33-6 at Dr Hickey Park. Hooker James Blaney grabbed most of the plaudits for Kevin West’s side, scoring a try hat-trick.

Leinster’s David McAllister, playing at fly-half, was also on song, kicking two conversions, two penalties and a drop goal, while ‘Nure’s other try came from McAllister’s half-back partner Mark Mahony.

Terenure lie second on 15 points, one behind Bective and level with Young Munster, who bossed Barnhall in a 60-point thriller at Tom Clifford Park. Former captain Kieran Horan scored two tries with current skipper Derek Corcoran, centre Aidan McNulty, lock Dara Payne and fly-half Mick Lynch also adding five-pointers for Young Munster in their 38-22 win.

UCC also scored six tries to go fifth in the table. The Cork students were too much for a struggling Malone side as they won out 37-3 at the Mardyke.

UCC led 13-3 at the break and tries in the second half from replacement lock Barry O’Mahony, left wing Dermot O’Kane, right wing replacement Paul Shallow and flanker Michael Essex completed Malone’s misery.

Meanwhile, Ballynahinch moved up to eleventh on the back of a 22-13 win in Midleton.

Scrum-half Paul Marshall scored a fifth-minute try to set the County Down side on their way at Towns Park. Marshall was the creator for Hinch’s second on 40 minutes when Mark Scott was hauled down just metres short of the Midleton line for right wing Kyle Corrigan to seize the ball and crash over.

Armed with a 15-3 lead, Willie Anderson’s side made certain of victory following Midleton’s only try from lock Patrick Cullinane on 55 minutes. Man-of-the-match Marshall again probed the blindside and he offloaded for replacement flanker David Denny to scoot over for Hinch’s third.
