No Serious Damage For Humphreys

Ireland captain and fly-half David Humphreys has a badly swollen mouth but should be fit enough to line out against Japan in next Sunday’s second Test in Tokyo.

The 33-year-old, who earned his 68th cap in today’s 44-12 first Test victory, took a boot in the mouth after 21 minutes of the Osaka clash and was forced to retire for the rest of the game.

The Ulsterman staggered from the Nagai Stadium pitch, holding his cut mouth after the heavy blow. However, following an X-ray at a local hospital a loose tooth was secured and no serious damage was diagnosed.

With the Irish squad due to travel by Bullet train tomorrow (Monday) to next weekend’s Test venue Tokyo, Humphreys will rest up over the next few days before coach Niall O’Donovan’s team announcement on Wednesday.
