Leamy Out For Three Weeks

Ireland flanker Denis Leamy is to spend a minimum of three weeks on the sidelines after injurying his hamstring in Munster’s 25-19 Celtic League win over Glasgow on Sunday.

The 23-year-old – who is currently vying with Johnny O’Connor for the Ireland openside berth – suffered the injury after seventy minutes at Thomond Park.

Having delayed linking up with the Ireland squad in Dublin, the Tipperary man had his hamstring assessed yesterday by his province’s medical staff, and while disappointment abounded, it proved not to be a tear, but a strain.

Leamy – who made his Six Nations’ debut in Ireland’s 2005 opener against Italy – will miss Sunday’s clash with England, and more-than-likely the visit of champions France to Lansdowne Road on March 12.

Leamy has been in excellent form for Munster of late, scoring two tries in 12 league outings, as well as pocketing three – two against NEC Harlequins – in Alan Gaffney’s side’s run to a seventh successive Heineken Cup quarter final.
