South African lock Pieter Myburgh has joined Connacht from Italian side G.R.A.N. Parma. The 6’8 second row has played for the Falcons, Natal Sharks and Blue Bulls before heading for Italy.

South African lock Pieter Myburgh has joined Connacht from Italian side G.R.A.N. Parma. The 6’8 second row was born in Vanderbijlpark, South Africa and has played for the Falcons, Natal Sharks and Blue Bulls before heading for Italy.

Myburgh is 26 and has played for South Africa at under 19, 21 and 23 level. He arrived in Galway yesterday evening after travelling from Johannesburg and after passing a medical examination signed for the province today.

He is the sixth new player to join up with the Connacht squad for pre season training along with James Downey, Niall O’Brien, David Kelly, David Slemen and David Tierney. It is hoped he will fill the void at second row after Damien Browne and Mike McCarthy left for Northampton and Newcastle respectively at the end of last season.
