Mark McHugh was a revelation at full back through September, which saw Connacht win three out of their four fixtures against Edinburgh, Borders and Glasgow, losing away to Cardiff Blues. He has shown consistently
solid defence at full back and combined with his booming right foot, has provided security at the back for the men from the West.

The goal kicking responsibilities for Connacht have been shared between both McHugh and Eric Elwood, but McHugh has kicked some vital goals, particularly
against Borders when he came on to kick two vital penalties and a haul of 15 points in the win against Glasgow.

Kieran Campbell’s
emergence at scrum half for Ulster has been an added bonus for Alan Solomons’ team as their form throughout October sent them to the top of the table. With Neil Doak in Australia, Campbell has grasped his
opportunity to give Solomons a selection headache with Doak’s return to the Ulster camp.

Campbell’s sharp service and authority behind Ulster’s pack has helped ease
the pain of David Humphreys’ absence and given out half Adam Larkin the extra time and space to play.

This allowed Ulster to record a tight win against Leinster in the Celtic Cup by virtue of a higher try count
after the teams were drawn at 23 – 23. Further wins against the Celtic Warriors, Edinburgh Rugby and Cardiff Blues saw Ulster record six straight wins in the league to send them to the top of the table.

Ronan Beirne, GUINNESS Brand Manager commented, The form of both Connacht
and Ulster has really caught the eye, and both Mark McHugh and Kieran Campbell have been key cogs in this success. As official beer to Celtic Rugby, Guinness Draught Can are happy to reward their effort and wish them and their provinces continued success.

The Guinness Draught Can Irish Celtic League Player of the Month was decided by the members of the national sports media and will continue each
month throughout the Celtic League.
