Toulouse win their place in the Heineken Cup Final

Munster miss out on a place in the Heineken Cup Final by a single point, on a scoreline of 13-12 in Toulouse today.

Munster led proceedings in the first half and were awarded a penalty 51 metres out from the Toulouse line. Ronan O’ Gara struck it well but it hit the post and wide. He made amends for the miss on 13 minutes with a drop goal in front of the posts. Controlling the line out, Munster soon went ahead again with a genalty goal from O’ Gara, 0-6. Toulouse had to wait until the last moments of the first half before opening their tally with a penalty goal after five minutes of injury time.

Munster led the scoring again in the second half with an O’ Gara penalty goal after 42 minutes. Jim Williams prevented a Toulouse try minutes later before Baptiste got another penalty goal for the French side making it 6-12. The video ref was called into action when Garbajosa went over the line. No try was awarded, scrum Munster. Two minutes later, Toulouse player Michalak went over for a converted try, giving them a one point lead going into the final stages.

Munster threatened to pull back the point deficit through the seven minutes of injury time. Twice Man of the Match Ronan O’ Gara had drop goal opportunities but they drifted left of the post and wide. The score stood, 13-12 in favour of the French players on the final whistle. They go on to play in the Heineken Cup Final on the 24th May in Lansdowne Road.
