Division One Beckons For Dolphin

Division One Beckons For Dolphin

All Dolphin have to do is hold their nerve and they will be playing first division football next season while Waterpark look assured of promotion from Division Three

AIB League Division Two.
With a final game this afternoon against at Musgrave Park, league leaders Dolphin look set for a return to the top division after an absence of five years. They are two points clear of Old Crescent who have a home tie against Old Belvedere and the Limerick side would benefit if there are any slip-ups by Dolphin who just need a no-frills win over the northern side who are ninth in the table.

Dolphin and Old Crescent are assured of home semi-final with four sides – Thomond, DLSP, UCC and Barnhall all vying for the remaining play-off places.

Thomond and DLSP are on 39 points and Thomond must travel to play already relegated Greystones while DLSP are home to a Sunday’s Well side desperate for points.

Barnhall host relegation threatened Portadown and the Leixlip side look the most likely to gain from any last day hiccups from the teams above them.

Division Two Fixtures: Barnhall v Portadown; Dolphin v Malone; Dublin University v UCC; DLSP v Sunday’s Well; Greystones v Thomond; Midleton v Bective Rangers; Old Crescent v Old Belvedere; Young Munster v Ballynahinch.

AIB League Division Three.
Waterpark need just a point from their clash with third-from-bottom Skerries to copperfasten their ascension to Division Two. Second placed Instonians are five points adrift and would need a remarkable set of circumstances to occur if they were to upset Waterpark’s party. An Instonian victory would be good enough to give them a home semi-final, although Wanderers could deny them that if the Belfast club are beaten. The likelihood is Wanderers will have to travel to Instonians in the semis, with the other spot going to Corinthians, ahead of Old Wesley.

Monkstown have been relegated and therefore drop out of senior rugby to be replaced by the winners of the round robin qualifying series.

Division Three Fixtures: Banbridge v Instonians; Clonakilty v Highfield; Connemara v Ballina; Corinthians v Queens; Old Wesley v Suttonians; Wanderers v Naas; Waterpark v Skerries.
