De Villiers Tests Positive For Cocaine.

French international prop forward Pieter de Villiers has been dismissed from the team after testing positive for cocaine and ecstasy and now faces a life ban if a second sample proves positive.

De Villiers tested positive for cocaine and ecstasy during a random test in December. If a second test confirms the findings of the first, De Villiers would be subject to action by the International Rugby Board and would face a possible suspension.

But at a press conference, the Stade Francais star denied knowingly taking any banned substance and insisted he had no idea how they got into his system.
“I have always been honest with my sport and I don’t take drugs,” he said. “I have always lived for my passion for rugby. I don’t know how these traces got into my body. I haven’t been sleeping or eating in the past 24 hours and I am asking myself thousands of questions.”

De Villiers was one of 13 players from Stade Francais who were subject to on-the-spot urine tests on December 18 under the auspices of the French Ministry of Sports.

De Villiers added: “After the match against Harlequins on December 14, some of the team went into in Paris for a night out. We drank a lot and at some point I didn’t feel well at all. I took a taxi home and was violently sick and suffered from an awful headache.”
“The symptoms were particularly bad and I had never had that before despite going to several after-match parties with my team-mates.”
“I have had many random controlled drugs tests with my club and national team but have never tested positive. As far as I am aware I haven’t taken anything.”

De Villiers will miss the RBS Six Nations while a B sample is carried out and will also be ruled out of the World Cup should he test positive again.
