Aid For Georgia, Bulgaria And Moldovia

As part of the IRB’s major initiatives aimed at assisting Unions that are suffering severe financial hardship, it was announced today that the SOS IRB – Kit Aid Scheme would be extended to include Georgia, Bulgaria and Moldova.

This follows a very successful 12 month trial period, in which SOS Romania delivered 2000 rugby shirts and nearly 800 pairs of boots to help develop junior rugby.

SOS Romania is now an integral part of the FRR’s junior development programme and collects kit from over 200 UK schools/clubs etc. n Broadfoot,Project Leader SOS IRB – Kit Aid. paid tribute to all the schools and clubs who came forward:
I am also delighted that the IRB have had the vision and courage to back SOS and it gives the IRB a chance to be very directly involved with the development of the real grass roots end of the game – the players of tomorrow coming from emerging rugby nations who hopefully one day soon will be major players in the global game of rugby

Geoff Evans IRB Development Manager added: I am pleased that such positive steps are being taken to restore and develop rugby in these nations, I am also greatly heartened by the positive response we have received from a number of the major unions.

Since its inception the SOS project has grown to 14 Regional Kit Co-ordinators based around the country.
