McHugh Looking Forward To Return
Ireland’s leading rugby referee Dave McHugh will establish a new Irish record when he takes charge of the France v Canada international in France on November 23.
The November international, France v Canada will be David McHugh’s 24th top class international match and beats the long established record held by Kevin Kelliher.
Following an incident during the South Africa – New Zealand Tri-nations game on August 10, 2002 when a spectator assaulted him, McHugh has now resumed training.
“I have been given the all – clear to resume training and subject to a further medical check, I am very hopeful of returning to action on
September 14th for the Neath versus Llanelli Celtic League game.” he says.
Irish referees, McHugh, Donal Courtney, Alan Lewis, Alain Rolland and Tony Redmond are in high demand for refereeing and touch judge duty in the
upcoming busy September – December period, when the positive profile of Irish refereeing is further highlighted by the busy schedules of Tom Atlin, Stephen Hilditch and Jim Irvine as match assessors.
