Miller and Quinlan on Injured List

10/06/02. Eric Miller and Alan Quinlan are the only real concerns following the opening match last Saturday night. Mller replaced Quinlan in the game in Timaru before retiring injured himself

Alan Quinlan hurt his knee in the 25th minute when he was in collision with Gary Longwell and Miller ended up with a bruised arm. Neither player took any part in this morning’s training session which took place at the Peter Johnstone Park, home of Taieri RFC. Both players will be monitored on a daily basis according to Pres Officer John Redmond who added that the full extent of their injury would become clearer later in the week.

However, good news for the Irish management was that Malcolm O’Kelly took a full part in the session this morning and reported no ill effects afterwards.

The Irish underwent a fairly intensive session behind closed doors and coach Eddie O’Sullivan was pleased with the way the players worked.

“It was a really good session.” he said before boarding the bus to go to the nearby swimming pool for the usual player dip.
“The boys were very focussed and the quality was particularly good, very few mistakes. Yes, I’d be very happy right now with the way things are going.”

While the Irish were intending to work with weights in the afternoon, the All Blacks were expected in Taieri for an open training schedule.

O’Sullivan expects to name his squad for Saturday’s Test after training tomorrow (Tuesday).
