International Debut For Mel Deane

International Debut For Mel Deane

Sale centre Mel Deane will make his first senior international appearance for Ireland on Saturday against the New Zealand Divisional XV in Timaru’s Alpine Energy Stadium.

The former Connacht player, now playing with Sale is the only uncapped player in the side although three players, Justin Bishop, Reggie Corrigan and Alan Quinlan return to senior international fare after a long absence. There is also a first start for wing forward Keith Gleeson who has won two caps as a replacement against Wales and France.

The side is along expected lines with perhaps the only surprise being the choice at half back where Guy Easterby will partner David Humphreys. Otherwise there are no real surprises. With Malcolm O’Kelly not considerd, Gary Longwell partners Paul O’Connell in the second row and Reggie Corrigan fills the spot usually reserved for Peter Clohessy who has retired from international rugby.
