IRFU Charitable Trust Launches ‘Friends’ Programme
Internationals Keith Wood, Mick Galwey and David Humphreys are among the players who have given their support to a new IRFU initiative aimed at raising funds for players who have suffered injury.
01/03/02.The Irish Rugby Football Union has launched a Friends of the Charitable Trust programme, designed to raise additional funds for seriously injured players.
The IRFU Charitable Trust is a registered charity founded in 1978. It helps seriously injured players in their everyday lives.
Payments made by the Trust include assistance with locomotory expenses, house alterations or extensions, wheelchairs, beds or lifting equipment; cars and vans, along with assistance for caring expenses.
The Charitable Trust is administered by a sub-committee of the IRFU, under the Chairmanship of Mr. John Hussey (pictured). He says: “The Trust would like to be in a position to do more for injured players. We are asking rugby people and the general sporting public to help us in this by becoming Friends of the Charitable Trust. I know we can rely on their generosity. All funds will go to the injured players as the IRFU pays all administrative expenses.

Ireland’s international playing squad. “Keith Wood says: “It is a great cause and I earnestly ask you to join with me in your support.
“I’ve signed up already,” says Mick Galwey and “Help us to help our own” says David Humphreys.
The annual subscription of the Friends of the Charitable Trust is 150 euro (#100stg.). In addition to helping severely injured players, membership includes an opportunity to attend a special annual dinner and some other events at
privileged rates. ‘Friends’ will also receive a special membership tie or scarf.
