Guinness Interpro Games Postponed

The Guinness Interprovincial championship games, Ulster v Munster and Connacht v Leinster, scheduled for the weekend of December 28th/29th have been postponed.

The Guinness Interprovincial championship games, Ulster v Munster and Connacht v Leinster, scheduled for the weekend of December 28th/29th have been postponed. The decision was taken on the advice of National Director of Coaching Liam Hennessy who believes that the players need a period of rest over the coming weeks in order to be in the best possible shape for the Heineken Cup and Six Nations Championship.

However, the Ulster v Munster game will go ahead on Friday December 28th at Ravenhill but without the contracted players. Both Ulster and Munster feel that players who haven’t been heavily involved in the recent Celtic League campaign need match practice ahead of the upcoming competitions.

The statement issued today read;

The I.R.F.U. wishes to announce that the Guinness Interprovincial series of games scheduled for the weekend of the 28th and 29th of December 2001 (Connacht V Leinster and Ulster V Munster) have been postponed. These postponements arise from the number of games the National and Provincial players have been involved in since the beginning of the season and the success of the Irish provinces in the Celtic League.

It is on the advice of the Director of Fitness Dr Liam Hennessy that the best possible preparation for the Irish provinces and the Irish National Squad in the lead into the resumption of European competitions and the Six Nations Championship is a period of rest, recovery and maintenance over the next two weeks.

The I.R.F.U is currently reviewing the schedule of outstanding games and will confirm this Thursday, the new arrangements.
