Navan RFC's President this season, Michael Gavigan, made a speech to mark the occasion, welcoming all visitors on the night. This was followed by a speech from incoming club President Brennie Farrell.
IRFU President Caleb Powell then spoke about the importance of clubs in the overall structure of Irish rugby and of the great success of the Minis and Youths structure in Navan currently which saw a number of young Navan RFC players gain recognition with Leinster, at various levels, during the season.
Beggy then introduced special guest Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh who reminisced about arranging for David to race a dog at Shelbourne Park, leaving a number of bookies with empty satchels, all in the cause of raising money for charity.
He also spoke of Pierce O'Mahony, the founder of Navan Pierce O'Mahony GAA club and his Kerry origins.
The following day saw the Navan Under-15s beat Clondalkin 7-3 to win the Leinster U-15 Plate competition. They took the honours at the end of a keenly-contested game at North Kildare RFC.
The game was played in very windy conditions, and both teams did well to adapt. Clondalkin took the lead with a penalty, but Navan hit back with a well-executed try by centre Ronan Scott, which was converted by Cillian Farrell.
Navan and Clondalkin had further scoring chances in an exciting finale, but the County Meath youngsters ran out worthy winners to the delight of their supporters.
