Delaney, in his speech, expressed heartfelt thanks on behalf of the Coolmine RFC membership, to the building and finance committees who had the vision, courage and drive to make the redeveloped facility a reality.
In his address to the Coolmine membership and invited guests, IRFU President Boyle praised Coolmine RFC for forging ahead and creating a superb rugby facility for west Dublin, wishing the club the very best in its quest for senior status in the near future.
To mark the occasion, the Leinster 'A' team took on the touring NSW Waratahs Development squad in a friendly fixture at Coolmine RFC. Despite taking a 10-3 lead, Leinster, who had tries from flanker Niall Ronan and full-back Ross McCarron, fell to a 20-17 defeat to the Australians.
The official opening ceremony concluded with a presentation of a signed Leinster jersey to the club, from Madge Garland and family, following the passing of Ger Garland last month. Club President Shane Delaney expressed the gratitude of the Coolmine membership, who are sure to hold Ger's memory close as the club grows and builds for the future.
The opening ceremony was preceded by a mini rugby blitz against Barnhall RFC, and a 12-10 victory for the Coolmine 1st XV over their Division Two rivals Edenderry in a pre-season friendly.
