Home Success Sends Garryowen Up To Sixth

Garryowen followed their Ulster Bank Bateman Cup semi-final win with a significant league success over Dolpin at Dooradoyle.

Saturday's 19-13 win lifts them above Dolphin in the Division 1A table and it came mainly via the accurate place-kicking of Declan Cusack.

Garryowen did all of their scoring in the first half with their only try being scored by outstanding flanker Paul Neville after 27 minutes. Cusack added the conversion and he also kicked four penalties in the half to make it 19-3 at the interval.

Cusack's opposite number Barry Keeshan kicked Dolphin's points with a penalty and he had another in a second half which the Cork side dominated.

Their only reward though was a try by openside John Quill which was converted by captain Keeshan for a losing bonus point.
