Garryowen Go Second After Bonus Point Win

Garryowen Go Second After Bonus Point Win

Garryowen collected their third straight win in Division 1A, comfortably accounting for an out-of-sorts Old Belvedere at Dooradoyle on Saturday.

Flanker Barry O'Mahony was the star of the show as the Limerick club rose to second place in the league table courtesy of their first bonus point victory of the campaign.

O'Mahony, fresh from scoring for Munster 'A' against Aberavon last weekend, ran in three tries in this runaway success for the Light Blues.

Clever centre Conan Doyle put the home side on their way with an early try, converted by young out-half Jamie Gavin.

He also added the extras to the first of O'Mahony's tries which made it 14-0 inside as many minutes, as 'Belvo drew breath.

They trailed 14-3 at the interval with number 10 Steve Crosbie landing a penalty to get them off the mark. Garryowen went on to dominate a lively second half which produced four tries, two for either side.

O'Mahony used his pace and power to complete his hat-trick and busy full-back Daniel Riordan and Jonathan Slattery crossed for the Dubliners.

Gavin, certainly a player to look out for in the coming years, finished with a tally of 14 points via four successful conversions and two penalty goals.
