Fitzpatrick Steers Blackrock To Late Win

Fitzpatrick Steers Blackrock To Late Win

Blackrock College were outscored by three tries to two, but manufactured a dramatic comeback win as replacement Darragh Fitzpatrick’s late drop goal helped them see off Old Belvedere at Anglesea Road.

Darragh Fitzpatrick's three-pointer condemned Old Belvedere to their fourth successive league defeat. The bad run of form is loosening 'Belvo's grip on the trophy with each passing week.

Phil Werahiko's men, who led 11-7 at half-time, had tries from back rowers Karl Miller (2) and Jack Conan but could not shake off a determined Blackrock side.

The visitors stayed in touch with tries from Des Dillon and Brendan Macken, and kickers Andrew Letham, Rob Keogh and Fitzpatrick all had a contribution – they accumulated 16 points through two conversions, three penalties and a drop goal.

It was enough to secure 'Rock's first Division 1A victory under new head coach Eric Miller and lift them off the bottom of the table ahead of next weekend's home clash with St. Mary's College.
