First Half Salvo Sets Blackrock On Their Way

Blackrock College’s late season revival continued at Stradbrook on Saturday when they held off a struggling Shannon side for a 25-21 win.

The Limerick giants were 22-6 behind at half-time and came back into contention with tries from winger Luke O'Dea and hooker Duncan Casey.

Former Munster favourite Mossie Lawlor also kicked 11 points for the visitors, who are now bottom of the Division 1A table and scrapping to avoid a relegation play-off.

With Division 1A comprising of ten teams next season, the top seven finishers this year plus the two promoted sides from Division 1B will be joined by the winners of a promotion/relegation play-off.

As things currently stand, the play-off would be between Shannon and Buccaneers.

This afternoon's result means Andy Wood's Blackrock outfit have held onto their Division 1A status. After beating St. Mary's away last time out, they came into this game with all guns blazing.

Prop Jonathan Barretto and number 8 Michael Noone (2) shared out the tries for a dominant Blackrock pack in the opening half, and Darragh Fitzpatrick's second half penalty was enough to get the hosts over the finish line.
