Dolphin Show Strength On Home Soil

Dolphin Show Strength On Home Soil

Dolphin’s first home game of the Ulster Bank League campaign went to plan as they overcame Blackrock College on a 17-10 scoreline.

Tries in each half from wingers Kevin Brophy and Cian Bohane were effectively the difference, with Barry Keeshan kicking the rest of the Cork side's points.

Attack-minded full-back Andrew Letham broke through for 'Rock's first half try, however the Dubliners were eventually outfought in the forward exchanges by the hosts.

Eric Miller's men had actually started in fine fashion. They set up camp in the Dolphin half and after a bout of pressure, the space was created for Letham to score in the right corner and out-half Darragh Fitzpatrick added the extras for a 7-0 lead.

Dolphin number 10 Keeshan fired over a drop goal in the 13th minute and the hosts soon began cranking it up, with Christy Condon, Dave O'Mahony and Robbie Allen the pick of their forwards.

Some patient build-up play set up Brophy for his first league try for the club, crossing on the left and in behind the posts for Keeshan to convert and give them a 10-7 half-time lead.

The second half was a slow-burning affair, Keeshan and his opposite number Fitzpatrick both looking to find the corners and get their forwards on the move.

In the end, Bohane's converted score, teed up by a brilliant break from replacement Harry Fleming, was enough to seal the points for Dolphin.

A well-hit penalty from 'Rock's Fitzpatrick reduced the arrears to seven points, earning them a losing bonus point. They would have relinquished that had Keeshan's late drop goal attempt not bounced back off the crossbar.

So, Dolphin open their win account for the new league season and gained a measure of revenge for a 21-16 reversal here at Musgrave Park last October.
