Trips To Thomond And RDS For TV3’s Live Champions Cup Coverage

TV3 has announced its live pool matches for this season’s Heineken Champions Cup. Nine games will be broadcast on the free-to-air channel, which will be re-branded to Virgin Media One on Thursday, August 30.

TV3 will broadcast Munster v Gloucester at Thomond Park in round 2 on Saturday, October 20 (kick-off 1pm), and Leinster v Toulouse at the RDS in round 5 on Saturday, January 12 (kick-off 1pm).

Live coverage of one quarter-final, one semi-final and the 2019 final at St James’ Park, Newcastle will also be broadcast, with a weekly highlights programme each match week, featuring the Irish provinces’ Heineken Champions Cup matches.

Kieran Holden, TV3 Group Head of Sport, said: “We are very happy to be bringing live coverage of European club rugby back to Irish free-to-air audiences at such an exciting time both for Irish Rugby and for our business. In two weeks’ time we will re-brand our free to air channels under the Virgin Media Television brand and two weeks later we will be adding our own Virgin Media Sports channel to the ever growing list of benefits enjoyed by Virgin Media customers.

“Twelve short months ago we could hardly have imagined this level of excitement or success…Irish Six Nations Grand Slam champions and European Cup champions, both defending their titles live on TV3 and a continuity of top-class live rugby over 14 weekends of the upcoming season between the two tournaments, with nine live Heineken Champions Cup matches.”
