Ulster To Host Ospreys In Champions Cup Qualification Play-Off

Ulster To Host Ospreys In Champions Cup Qualification Play-Off

After this weekend’s results in the Aviva Premiership and Top 14, the GUINNESS PRO14 will not be in a position to receive an eighth place in next season’s Champions Cup should Leinster triumph against Racing 92 in next Saturday’s European decider.

As a result, PRO14 Rugby can confirm that Ulster will host the Ospreys in a Champions Cup qualification play-off tie at Kingspan Stadium on Sunday, May 20, with a kick-off time of 3.05pm. The game will be broadcast live on BBC 2 Northern Ireland and S4C.

With the GUINNESS PRO14 Championship allocated seven places in next season’s Champions Cup, the top three teams in Conference A and Conference B automatically qualified, meaning the fourth-placed team in either Conference would play-off for the PRO14’s seventh representative spot.

However, with South African newcomers, the Toyota Cheetahs, who are ineligible for Champions Cup participation, finishing third in Conference A, fourth-placed Cardiff Blues duly took the third qualifying berth and the Ospreys, who finished in fifth place, were shifted into the play-off position to face Ulster.

Jono Gibbes’ men will have home advantage by virtue of finishing with the greater number of points accumulated during the PRO14’s regular season – 62 compared to the Ospreys’ 44.

Although the play-off fixture is part of the GUINNESS PRO14 final series, Ulster Rugby Season Ticket holders will have access to an exclusive priority booking period for this match where they can access up to six tickets per season ticket at a loyalty 20% savings on all tickets, across all areas of the stadium.

The Season Ticket holder priority booking period will be open from 10am tomorrow (Sunday) until midnight on Tuesday. Admission to this game is not included in Season Ticket Packages as it is part of the PRO14 final series and is managed by PRO14 Rugby.

Meanwhile, Ulster v Ospreys play-off tickets will be available on general sale from 10am next Wednesday, online at www.ulsterrugby.com/buytickets, by calling (028) 9049 3222 (option 2), or over the counter from the Ulster Rugby Ticket Office at Kingspan Stadium.
