TG4 To Continue To Broadcast PRO14 Matches For Next Three Seasons

TG4 is continuing to support the GUINNESS PRO14 by broadcasting the Championship for the next three seasons.

For the first time in the Republic of Ireland rugby supporters can watch all 152 games a season of the most exciting club rugby Championship in the world across eir Sport 1 and eir Sport 2announced yesterday as rights holders from 2018/19.

eir Sport has also entered into a sub-licencing agreement to allow Irish language broadcaster TG4 to show 21 games across the regular season.

Martin Anayi, CEO of PRO14 Rugby, said: “Free-to-air coverage on TG4 is a vital component of these broadcast agreements to ensure all fans have access to every round of action in the GUINNESS PRO14. TG4 are long-standing broadcast partners of the Championship and have contributed greatly to its popularity and we are delighted that this relationship has been maintained.”

Rónán Ó Coisdealbha, TG4 Head of Sport, commented: “TG4 are very much looking forward to working with eir Sport and PRO14 Rugby across the new broadcast cycle which begins at the start of the new season. We have had a long and proud history of working with this tournament since it began as the Celtic League many years ago and we are excited to be involved for the coming seasons.”

Dermot Rigley, Commercial and Marketing Director of PRO14 Rugby, added: “Most major rugby properties now have a subscription model with broadcasters valuing the PRO14 as one of the premier club competitions in world rugby. We believe that eir Sport and TG4 will offer us a perfect combination – incredible quality and value for supporters and reach for our Championship.”

PRO14 Rugby have also signed a partnership with Premier Sports and FreeSports to broadcast every game in the UK and Northern Ireland, while negotiations continue with a local language broadcaster in the UK.
