Returning Players Boost Connacht’s Play-Off Preparations

Ahead of Saturday’s Champions Cup play-off game away to Northampton Saints, the Connacht Rugby medical team have provided the following update.

Ultan Dillane (shoulder) will integrate into team training this week, while fellow second row Andrew Browne (calf) sustained a calf injury in training and will be monitored by the medical staff in relation to training.

Marnitz Boshoff (head injury) is completing his graduated return-to-play protocols this week and will integrate into team training. Steve Crosbie has recovered from his AC joint injury and will integrate into team training this week.

Tom Farrell (groin) and Shane O’Leary (foot) sustained injuries last week and will be monitored by the medical staff in relation to training. Peter Robb (hip) will integrate into team training this week along with returning wingers Niyi Adeolokun (hamstring) and Matt Healy (hand).

Asked if the returning players will be available for the Northampton clash, Connacht head coach Pat Lam said: “Potentially. We’ll see how they get through the week of training but we’re realistic, there’s a lot of things to factor in as well.

“Ultan has been out for 10 weeks, Matt Healy has been out 11 weeks, ‘Niysy’ is four or five weeks, so we’ve got to weigh all of those things up. There’s no doubt we’ve got a few guys injured.

Bundee (Aki) is not available as well (through suspension), so there’s some issues in the backs we have to balance up as coaches and see how we get through. Hopefully, all going well, they’ll be in contention.

“We highlighted some things in the Munster game that we were all embarrassed by. It just wasn’t Connacht. What gives me confidence is the way the boys have responded so far and the quality of the sessions we’ve had since that game.”
